How the Column Repacking Service Works
The vision of our company has been the production of products that
have quality performance that are better for the environment.
With the development of silica packed
plastic cartridges has come the increase production of complicated waste
that is being land filled or incinerated. Both of these options are not
good for our environment. One chemist using 3 average size plastic
cartridges a week results in a total of nearly 33 lbs (23.3 lbs of
silica and 9.4 lbs of plastic) of complicated waste per year. With an
estimate of 3,000 users of plastic cartridges, the complicated waste
that is being produced each year is close to 98,000 lbs.
THERE IS A BETTER CHOICE with no increase in cost
By using our columns this huge amount of waste would be almost
totally eliminated (a small amount of waste is produced in the process
to re-purify the silica, but no plastic waste is generated).

We provide a service to pack, clean and repack glass chromatography columns. After the column is used,
all you have to do is blow out the solvent, put it back in the shipping
tube and box and mail it to us with the provided return label. We will
clean and re-pack it with fresh new silica gel or other media of your
choice and send it back to you for reuse. All the silica from the used
columns is sent to another company for purification.
Note*- We provide an additional service to have the columns boxed,
labeled and a reorder sheet provided for the scientist. Minimum order
required. Call RT Scientific Inc., at 434-806-1731 for information.
